Kaskade + ILLENIUM = Double Whammy of Sun-Soaked EDM at Beach Club

This boiling Montreal summer has brought us some of the most unforgettable club nights and fun-filled day parties of the year, leaving some of us to feel that the best of 2018 is already behind us. But turn down for what — am I right? There’s no reason to call it quits when the greatest is still incoming, with Beachclub Pointe-Calumet’s double-whammy of KASKADE x ILLENIUM playing day-long sets on Saturday, August 18th.

Kaskade is an American DJ who rose to fame alongside fellow producers deadmau5 and Wolfgang Gartner during the American prog-house revival that picked up around late 2008. His first full-length house debut “It’s You It’s Me” garnered him initial international acclaim, which was soon followed by a slew of house hits, electronic festival appearances, and 2 Grammy nominations: “Atmosphere,” the track, for Best Dance Recording, and “Atmosphere,” the album, for Best Dance/Electronica Album.

Nicholas D. Miller, better known for his work as musician ILLENIUM, started experimenting with beat-making after seeing Bassnectar perform live. In 2013 he dropped a self-titled EP, building himself a career that has grown into multiple collaborations with the best of the techno industry, and going on to win Remix of the Year at the 2017 Electronic Music Awards for his take on Flume’s “Say It.”

Beach Club, the open-pair paradise in Pointe-Calumet just half an hour from downtown MTL, is run amok with booze galore, tropical decor, and much, much more. There’s a glorious main stage, plenty of terraces, luxury beds, VIP sections and widescreen TVs all over. No wonder it’s widely dubbed the largest outdoor club in North America!

Tickets to dance the day away with Kaskade and ILLENIUM are $40 General Admission or $60 VIP (granting you fast access to the event, a VIP terrace, bathroom, and one Red Bull). Buy your tickets here.

2018’s Most Turnt EDM Producers and Mumble Rappers? Catch Them Outside @ ÎleSoniq

Greetings, EDM-heads of Montreal and elsewhere. Wandering souls upon this Planet Earth. What brings you to this page? Could you possibly have landed here because you’re looking to locate some word on ÎleSoniq, the stacked techno music festival that goes off AF one August weekend every year on Parc Jean-Drapeau… because said annual August weekend just happens to be this one?

Whoooo boys (and gals). We brought you a fine-tuned îleSoniq Day 1 suggestion list earlier in the week, and now we’re back to offer you some directions concerning who not to miss this Saturday.

Fafa Khan (1pm, Scène MIRAGE Bud Light)

This should require no explanation. We stan a local legend. Fafa Khan throws hip hop, R&B, trap, reggae and old school in a blender and pours it out for all of our ears to drink. Plus, later that night, she’s in charge of the beats for an official afterparty at Club Muzique.

LOUD LUXURY (3pm, Scène Oasis Fido)

This Toronto duo has been surfing the radio waves all summer with their infectious and inescapable smash hit “Loud” feat. brando. The Chainsmokers better watch their throne is all I’m saying.

Bhad Babie (5:15pm, Scène MIRAGE Bud Light)

Say what you want about the meme-turned-musician… but she’s proven quite industrious at stretching her 15 minutes of fame into something that suspiciously resembles a music career. And if Ty Dolla $ign and Lil Yachty think she has the chops to hop in the recording studio with them, then hey, maybe Bhabie ain’t actually all that Bhad.

Lil Xan (6:15pm, Scène MIRAGE Bud Light)

Xans don’t make you, but seeing Lil Xan live might make your Saturday. Or not. But hey, he’s here, a figurehead of that new wave they call mumble rap, or SoundCloud trap, or trillwave or whatever.  Either way, it’ll be something to witness, even if the crowd he’s drawn could be as curious as the troubled, enigmatic youngster onstage.

The Chainsmokers (9:40pm, Scène Oasis Fido)

This up-and-coming EDM-pop duo is sure to be the next big thing in the music industry – keep your eyes on them, y’all. JK! We all know The Chainsmokers are massive, and we either love or hate them for it. But there’s no denying that they’ve creeped their way into the fabric of our own personal soundtracks of the past few years with ubiquitous jams like “Closer” and “Something Just like This,” so why try to so hard to fight it? Why not just throw yourself face-first into The Chainsmokers wave and ride it into oblivion?

That’s all for our Day 2 suggestions! Peep the full lineup here and choose between Full Weekend and Single Day passes here. 😝

Since there are  a multitude of events to sort through, making it tough to gauge which ones are worth attending and which you should skip to recharge your batteries before hitting the dance floor once more, we’ve thrown together a brief list of the 8 events for the fest’s 2018 iteration that you simply can’t miss.

This tripartite set is made up of amazing queer and racialized artists who know how to get the party started. Aug 19 — Arena and Love Festival (Hangar 500)

A late-night bash to end Fierté 2018 with a bang.

Muzique has long been the ultimate destination for clubgoers on Montreal’s famous Saint-Laurent strip. It’s a site where the champagne never stops flowing, the party is always bumping, and patrons are perpetually lined up, anticipating their chance to join the party.

Straight off of her set at ÎleSoniq on Saturday, August 11th, local DJ and model Fafa Khan will be in total control of the speakers, the dance floor and your night out as she graces Muzique with her crisp and diverse selection of hip hop, R&B, trap, reggae and old school. Khan’s official afterparty at Muzique all Saturday eve is undoubtedly where you want to wind up after ÎleSoniq draws to a close for the night. This weekend also happens to mark the birthday of club owner Michael Bourgeois, so you can bet the night will be one of celebration.

Bad Bunny Takes the Stage at L’Olympia This Friday

The 24-year-old Puerto Rican trap artist was thrust into the mainstream spotlight earlier this year after being featured on Cardi B’s number-one single “I Like It.” That hardly means Bad Bunny is nothing more than some fresh-faced newcomer to the scene, though.

Bad Bunny got his start on SoundCloud, where his track “Diles” brought him to the attention of  record label Hear This Music. His breakthrough single “Soy Peor” expanded his growing fanbase, then a few collaborative hits later and he was being invited to host Beats 1’s Spanish-language radio show Trap Kingz. Before long, Cardi B’s people called, and the young musician got the opportunity to show his stylishly-shaved head to the world.

Now Montreal is about to get its chance to rap along to Bad Bunny’s slick cadence and see his sick hairdo in the flesh at L’Olympia on Friday, August 10th as part of Bad Bunny’s La Nueva Religion Tour. Get your tickets here! This hippity-hop concert is brought to you by Bombazo & KK True North. 🐰🐰🐰

World’s Top EDM Acts Converge on Parc Jean-Drapeau for ÎLESONIQ 🌆

It’s that time of year again. ÎleSoniq is upon us once more, meaning Parc Jean-Drapeau will see fleets of techno lovers come together for the weekend to bask in live DJ sets from some of the world’s most sought-after EDM producers.

Just look at this fire lineup: everyone from Diplo, LOUD LUXURY, Lil Xan and Andrew Rayel to The Chainsmokers will be performing back-to-back over August 10 – 11. That’s not to mention an impeccable roster of up-and-coming local and international acts who you may not know yet but who we can assure you want on your radar.

But if you’re having trouble deciding who to see, here’s a Day 1 suggestion list featuring some of our faves who will be making an appearance, curated by yours truly at the team.

Banx & Ranx (1pm, Scène MIRAGE Bud Light) — This electro-Caribbean duo from right here in Montreal received a Latin Grammy Award nomination for production and co-writing credits on Nicky Jam’s Fénix. They know how to bring the party, trust.

Herobust (5pm, Scène OASIS Fido) — If steep build-ups to magnificent, sky-high drops are your sort of thing, then this Georgian bass music producer is perfect to check out. At the same time, his growing oeuvre covers a whole lot of ground across musical styles and genres, so you never know exactly what you’re gonna get with this one.

Andrew Bayer (7:20pm, Scène NEON Bacardi) — While a massive chunk of ÎleSoniq-ers will be hanging tight around a different stage to catch Diplo (and really, who can blame them?), we urge you to stick around and party to Andrew Bayer’s masterful take on contemporary big room house — especially his newest release “Your Eyes” feat. Ane Brun.

DJ Snake (9:40pm, Scène OASIS Fido) — Blow a kiss, fire a gun. There’s no  performer better to end your night leaning on than French EDM hitmaker William Sami Étienne Grigahcine (or, you know, ‘DJ Snake’ for short).

Check back later this week for your personal guide of who not to miss at ÎleSoniq Day 2!
